Red panda raster vs particle2/23/2023 ![]() ![]() Long delays become flurries of repeated arpeggios that sounded like some alien organ. One of my favorite settings is feedback mode set to continuous repeats, the shift knob at 5 o’clock, and transpose mode on. It would take pages to describe the possible textures-at times the Raster has the chaotic personality of an old synth. The real fun starts when you activate shift mode. The effect is clearer than on a Memory Man, though players who seek the clarity of, say, a Boss DD-6 may want to look elsewhere. Using a Gibson Les Paul, a Soldano Lucky 13 half stack, and the Raster sans shift mode, repeats were clear, but with a slightly lo-fi decay in the highs. Raster Blaster You don’t have to get tricky with the Raster-it sounds great with simple echoes. High-pitched transpositions can sound harsh. The developers say that release has been delayed due to the global chip shortage.A smorgasbord of wild pitch-shift effects. Red Panda Raster 2 will be available for $299 USD in late summer/early fall. Audio outputs via TRS are not perfect, but is due to the small, compact design. Above all, the deep pitch/frequency shift functions but also the modulation bring the pedal into new sound areas. Raster Delay 1 DemoĪt first glance a very big feature update for the Raster delay pedal. Here is one of the first generation to check out. There is currently no demo for the new version. Taking about presets, it has 4 onboard user prests via the front pedal and 127 via MIDI. Cool, RP shops it with a new web-based editor for editing presets and accessing hidden parameters. It has clock synchronization and full implementation with additional parameters over USB or TRS. The MIDI support is also one of the big improvements in the second version. It includes two random waveforms which are perfect for glitchy, tape deck-style, or experimental effects. The developers also thought of experimental, noise musicians. It offers seven waveforms that can be assigned to the delay time, pitch shift, or effect level. Red Panda also introduces modulation in the new Raster 2 pedal. It can be pushed to extremes for ring modulation and inharmonic shifted delays that distort and break apart. Also here you can shift the left and right channels by the same amount, ratio, or opposite directions.īeyond pitch shifting, a combination phase/frequency shifter creates subtle evolving repeats, dissonant harmonies, and barber pole flanging. ![]() Additionally, you can detune in micro pitch shifts for chorus repeats. Great for arpeggiator style or wild effects. ![]() Pitch & Frequency ShiftingĪnd the new Raster 2 also gives you deeper pitch shifting options on the repeats including up, down, and in semitone steps. Plus both channels can run in series, parallel, or ping pong. Handy, you can change the left and right delay in sync with a single knob. So you can achieve crazy repeats that fit in your tracks or those with more attacks. Raster 2 hosts a tone control that sweeps between darker analog-style repeats through to digital clarity. Controlled self-oscillation sounds, here we come. The pedal has three delay ranges allowing you to dial in precisely your sounds and instantly change delay time with rhythmic shifts. The core is based on a digital delay with up to 1600ms with a pitch and frequency shifter integrated into the pedal’s feedback path. The latter one is probably the biggest improvement that opens up new sonic possibilities. This adds longer delay times, modulation power, presets optionally tweakable via an editor, MIDI support, and stereo operation. Raster 2 is the next generation of its Raster 1 (2015) pedal with upgraded hardware. The new Raster 2 pedal is described as a digital delay with a pitch and frequency shifter integrated into a feedback loop. The Raster delay, also one of the well-known Red Panda pedals, got a significant update for Summer NAMM 2021 in the form of a new Raster 2. No matter if the Particle 2 granular delay, Bitmap 2 bit crusher, Conext 2 reverb … all very special effect processors. Instead of developing bread and butter effects, they infuse very unique algorithms in their pedals. If you are into experimental guitar effect pedals, the company Red Panda from Detroit, Michigan (USA) plays at the top for many. Red Panda catapults its Raster delay pedal in version 2 into new wild sound areas with more pitch & freq shifting options, mod engine & more ![]()

Astronomical applications of astrometry2/23/2023 ![]() ![]() Ahmed Zewali, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1999).Īlthough we live in a world faced with the many immediate problems of hunger, poverty, energy and global warming, we argue that astronomy has long term benefits that are equally as important to a civilized society. Fundamental research proves profitable in the long run, and, as importantly, it is a force that enriches the culture of any society with reason and basic truth.” But making new knowledge is neither easy nor profitable in the short term. The difficulties in describing the importance of astronomy, and fundamental research in general, are well summarized by the following quote: Pursuing these questions is a fundamental part of being human, yet in today's world it has become increasingly important to be able to justify the pursuit of the answers. Current research is struggling to understand questions like: “How old are we?”, “What is the fate of the Universe?” and possibly the most interesting: “How unique is the Universe, and could a slightly different Universe ever have supported life?” But astronomy is also breaking new records every day, establishing the furthest distances, most massive objects, highest temperatures and most violent explosions. There are still many unanswered questions in astronomy. This connection touches our lives, and the awe it inspires is perhaps the reason that the beautiful images astronomy provides us with are so popular in today’s culture. The discovery that the basic elements that we find in stars, and the gas and dust around them, are the same elements that make up our bodies has further deepened the connection between us and the cosmos. Now, as our understanding of the world progresses, we find ourselves and our view of the world even more entwined with the stars. ![]() Take, for example, the names of the constellations: Andromeda, the chained maiden of Greek mythology, or Perseus, the demi-god who saved her. We would now call this astrology, far removed from the hard facts and expensive instruments of today’s astronomy, but there are still hints of this history in modern astronomy. ![]() Early cultures identified celestial objects with the gods and took their movements across the sky as prophecies of what was to come. A revolution through which religion, science, and society had to adapt to this new world view.Īstronomy has always had a significant impact on our world view. ![]() When Copernicus claimed that Earth was not the centre of the Universe, it triggered a revolution. It is a discipline that opens our eyes, gives context to our place in the Universe and that can reshape how we see the world. Throughout History humans have looked to the sky to navigate the vast oceans, to decide when to plant their crops and to answer questions of where we came from and how we got here. & Christensen, L.L., Astronomy in Everyday Life CAPjournal 14, 2013Īstronomy and international collaboration Best of all: Many are free! Next time you find yourself on a nighttime walk, or looking for a way to entertain the kids in the backyard after the sunset, pull out one of these apps and prepare to be amazed. You just have to fire up the app and then look like some kind of astronomical genius. That means you don't need a planetarium docent's knowledge of hundreds and thousands of stars to find the one you're looking for. How does it work? Most of them have some kind of augmented-reality feature, where they can locate where you are automatically and pull up what the star map should look like above you. Many of them can even alert you to the upcoming celestial events, so you'll never miss another Super Moon again. Most of the time, all you have to do is point them at the night sky, and they'll demystify what's in front of you, be it stars, planets, constellations, or man-made objects like satellites or the International Space Station. Whether the Super Pink Moon in April kickstarted your love of astronomy, or you want to be prepared by the time the Perseids meteor shower rolls around in during warmer weather, you should start with checking these best stargazing apps. ![]() |
